Humber Bridge goes free-flow to improve journey times
Free-flow payment lanes are due to be opened on the Humber Bridge in November to speed up journey times.
The Humber Bridge Board said that from September users can apply for a HumberTag account, which will allow drivers to travel across the bridge without stopping.
The board said that an unprecedented rise in the number of users of the bridge since the toll charges were cut three years ago had led to delays in converting the central lanes into a free flow system.
Manned booths will still be operational in the remaining lanes and hauliers using the tag system will qualify for reduced charges of £10 instead of £12 per journey.
The FTA and the RHA said the system will benefit freight companies by reducing queuing and crossing times and cutting fuel usage.
