Drivers need to spend a penny, says freight minister
The freight minister Andrew Jones has asked the Health and Safety Executive if more could be done to allow delivery drivers access to customers’ toilets after the Department of Health (DoH) stonewalled the issue.
Jones said: “It is common sense and courtesy that drivers should be allowed to use the facilities at the premises they visit during their work.”
Jones was responding to a letter from campaigner Gill Kemp’s MP, Grant Shapps, who forwarded information about her Truckers’ Toilets campaign.
Jones said unless there was a good reason drivers should be allowed access to the facilities.
However, he added: “I understand that for some employers, considerations such as security make this less straightforward. This is a matter for the Health and Safety Executive.”
